Marie Hunter is a highly respected instructor and creative leader with more than 42 years of hands-on experience in sewing, garment construction and fibre arts.
Marie teaches our Crocheting for Beginners to Advanced classes as well as our Year-Long Beginner Seamstress Course, supporting students from their very first stitches through to confidently completing beautifully finished, wearable projects.
Marie is also the proud owner of Copeland Fabric and Wool, a creative hub that reflects her lifelong passion for quality materials, traditional craftsmanship and community learning.
Throughout her courses, Marie brings a rich and practical range of skills to every lesson. Students learn accurate measuring and fitting, pattern reading and alteration, fabric selection and preparation, professional seam finishes, hemming techniques, hand-sewing and machine sewing, zip and button insertion, basic tailoring, garment assembly, creative mending and introductory design principles. In her crochet teaching, Marie guides students through stitch mastery, shaping and construction, finishing and blocking methods, colour and texture selection, and thoughtful project planning—ensuring every piece is both beautiful and well made.
At the heart of Marie’s teaching is her commitment to keeping the art of sewing alive. She believes sewing is more than a skill—it is a living tradition, a powerful form of self-expression and a meaningful way to connect generations through creativity. With patience, encouragement and deep respect for the craft, Marie inspires her students to carry these skills forward and continue creating for a lifetime.
